This is the world’s smallest breed of dogs, and its small size has earned it a proportionally great renown. These doggies are vivid and cute in appearance and merry in disposition. They are infinitely brave and unbelievably protective around their loved ones. They hate unfamiliar dogs, and it may take about half an hour for an owner to comfort a dog after even a brief encounter with an alien animal. These little dogs can be very suspicious of strangers and feel anxious when there is someone they do not know in the house.

There is no such a type as teacup or pocket size dog of that breed. According to the AKC standard this breed may have only two variants based on the length of the coat – long-haired and smooth-haired dogs. The standard doesn’t categorize the breed by size. The show quality dogs of this breed should be from 1 to 6 pounds in weight. Very small dogs sometimes occur, but they cannot be called a separate type, just a freak of nature.
